The notebook of a teacher who studied in Kydonies with notes on mathematics, algebra, and geometry, exemplifies the ramifications of Greek education in the early 19th century. The majority of the entries date from May 1922, when he was assigned to the 7th company of the 37th Infantry Regiment in Osmank\u00f6y. His recordings vividly depict the last days of military life on the Greek front before the Turkish counterattack, the collapse of the front, and the disorderly retreat.
