The establishment of girls\u2019 schools, such as the \u00abHomerion Girls\u2019 School of Smyrna,\u00bb from the middle of the 19th century, exemplifies the special concern for female education.<\/p><p class=\"p2\">The scope of women\u2019s education was to edify a woman as a mother and wife. For example, moralizing publications, such as Jean Nicolas Bouilly\u2019s <i>Advice to My Daughter, <\/i>was translated by the important female intellectual Evanthia N. Kairis and printed in Kydonies in 1820, while <i>The Duties<\/i> <i>of<\/i> <i>a Greek Mother <\/i>was printed in Amisos (Samsun) in the early 20th century.<\/p><p class=\"p2\">On the other side of the spectrum, the<i> Satirical Rod, or<\/i> <i>Folk Poetry about the Ill-mannered<\/i> <i>Women and Young Women <\/i>of 1877<i> <\/i>reveals the prejudices of the time.<\/p><p class=\"p2\">The periodical press of the early 20th century offers glimpses of everyday life, as can be seen in the content of the bi-weekly magazine <i>Cosmos<\/i> in the 1910s. Under the supervision of her brother, she had access to a singular education and one of her teachers was the renown Adamantios Korais, with whom she maintained correspondence. Apart from the translations of French plays, in 1826, only three months after the sortie of Messolonghi, Evanthia Kairis composed the drama Nikiratos about the fall of Messolonghi; it was the first theatrical play based on a historical event of the Greek Revolution.\"
